Geoff Mayfield is a respected music industry analyst, journalist, educator, and consultant whose career has spanned more than four decades. Widely recognized as one of the industry’s foremost experts on music charts, sales, and consumption trends, Mayfield spent 23 years at Billboard, where he rose to Director of Charts and Senior Analyst. During his tenure, he helped guide the industry’s transition to data-driven chart methodologies, overseeing the adoption of sales, airplay, and digital metrics that transformed how music success is measured.

Following his time at Billboard, Mayfield served as Vice President of Business Analysis and Market Research for Universal Music Group Distribution, leading teams that analyzed sales, streaming, radio, and consumer behavior data across the global music marketplace.

Today, Mayfield works as a consultant, writer, speaker, and educator, contributing his expertise to organizations throughout the music industry. He has advised companies including Spotify and Yahoo, contributed to Billboard and Variety, and teaches music business courses at Los Angeles College of Music. Known for his deep understanding of market trends and the evolution of music consumption, Mayfield remains a trusted voice on the intersection of music, data, and the business of entertainment.
