Bio

Harrison Flynn is a 23 year old guitarist native to Martinez, California and as of January 2016, a resident of Los Angeles. This past year Harrison was fortunate to have been accepted into the accredited Los Angeles College of Music in Pasadena, California with an emphasis in guitar performance.Having played guitar since he was 12 and performing in a variety of ensembles with some incredibly talented musicians in the Bay Area over the past 5 years, Harrison’s style of guitar playing could be considered a cross between blues rock, ’60s psychedelic rock, southern slide and Indian classical music. As an old musical soul who plays from the heart, Harrison is particularly drawn to the 1960’s psychedelic era in which extended jams and improvised solos were very popular. Artists that have inspired and influenced him and his guitar playing over the years, to name a few, are: Eric Clapton, Duane Allman, Rory Gallagher, Robby Krieger, George Harrison, Derek Trucks, Bob Dylan, U. Srinivas, John Coltrane, Mike Bloomfield, Jeff Beck, Ry Cooder, Jerry Garcia, Mick Taylor, Peter Green, John Mayer & Blake Mills. Both Clapton’s “woman tone” and Allman’s slide playing technique have shaped his playing style immensely. In 2012, Harrison was selected as a top ten finalist for the state of California in an International House of Blues Competition which led to a trip to the House of Blues in Hollywood. In 2013, Harrison was the sole guitarist in a local Bay Area musical theater production of Xanadu. Also during this time, Harrison helped form a rock band, Brave Ulysses. Their original songs combined the sounds of the psychedelic late ’60s with early ’90s grunge. Their musical growth and subsequent success eventually led to 3 opportunities to play the famed Whisky A Go Go in Hollywood, including opening for Buckcherry at the Whisky’s 50th anniversary show in January of 2014. In the summer of 2015, Harrison was asked to join Idlewild West, an Allman Brothers tribute band in the Bay Area, and he plays the part of one of his favorite guitarists, Duane Allman. Since much of Duane’s work was done with a slide, Harrison worked hard on developing his slide playing and soloing techniques, both of which play a big part in the music of the Allman Brothers.Harrison’s goal in addition to making the most of his education at LACM is to add to his performing experiences by immersing himself in the local Los Angeles music scene, and ultimately become a successful professional member of the music and entertainment industry as a lead guitarist or a sideman in a touring act, a studio session player, and a television, movie and advertising musician.
